Frequently Asked Questions

Mostly for compatibility. Email clients, older Office installs, print workflows and some stock photo sites still do not handle WebP, so a JPG version is the version that reliably opens everywhere.
Only if you lower the quality setting. Near 100 the JPG looks the same as the WebP, and at lower settings you get smaller files with the usual trade-off in fine detail.
JPG does not support transparency, so any transparent area is flattened onto a solid background colour. If you need the alpha channel preserved, convert the file to PNG instead.
Up to 10 MB per file, which is more than enough for a WebP exported from any standard image editor or downloaded from a typical website.

About WebP to JPG

WebP is the format the modern web prefers, but the rest of the world has not always caught up. Email clients, Microsoft Office on older builds, print shops, design software that has not been updated in a while and a good number of social platforms will still refuse a .webp file or silently fail to render it. When an image refuses to open, converting it to JPG is the fastest fix.

This tool takes webp files of up to 10 MB and produces a conventional JPG that any device since roughly 2004 can display. Use the quality slider to balance size against detail: leave it high for a photo you are about to print, drop it for a thumbnail going into an email signature or a marketplace listing.

Note that JPG cannot hold transparency. If your WebP uses an alpha channel, the transparent area is flattened onto a solid background so the picture does not come out with a black rectangle where the cut-out used to be. If you need to keep the transparency, convert to PNG instead.

When to Use This Tool

  • Sending a WebP by email to a client or colleague whose mail client cannot display it
  • Preparing images for a commercial printer, print shop or stock photo submission box that only accepts JPG
  • Feeding an upload form, CMS media library or marketplace listing that rejects WebP uploads
  • Making a broadly compatible copy for a presentation, PDF workflow or older desktop publishing package
